Samsung has announced that the HDR10+ format that it’s been championing for years now has gained another supporter. This time it’s Google Play Movies, and the service has started to support HDR10+ content on its smart TVs since July.

Samsung says there are now ‘numerous’ 4K HDR10+ titles available on Google Play Movies and quotes examples such as Joker, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam! and Crazy Rich Asians.

While Samsung says this service is now available on Samsung smart TVs in 117 countries, it only lists regions such as North America, Europe and Korea.

Samsung does mention Google Play Movies plans to support HDR10+ technology on other platforms in the future — but it stops short of elaborating further.

To enjoy HDR10+, you need a HDR10+-capable TV too. Expectedly, the majority of Samsung 4K and 8K QLED TVs launched in the last few years support HDR10+.

The HDR10+ standard alliance currently has 108 partners worldwide.
