Google Pixel 6 and 7 series get spatial audio with January 2023 update
Google is progressively rolling out its January 2023 update, and partly bringing new bells and whistles to some Pixel users.
According to the Google Pixel Help Community bulletin here, January 2023’s firmware update brings static spatial audio to the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro handsets. So long as it’s one of these mobiles, static spatial audio is available through any connected headset.
To further sweeten listening experiences with Google products, the team also said that spatial audio with head tracking will be rolled out “in the coming weeks” to the Pixel Buds Pro.
The rest of the update are bug fixes and security patches, with the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 getting better response rates for fingerprint recognition. Google is also fixing a rare issue where powered on Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices might occasionally fail to wake, or appear turned off.
The January 2023 update will be rolled out “over the next few weeks” in phases, dependent on the device model and telco carrier.
