Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL users have encountered memory management issues with their devices.

Posted on several Reddit forum threads, these users claim that the Pixel 3 devices could not keep more than three apps running in the background at a time. Two users specifically mentioned that the Pokemon Go app will reload from scratch. Other users mentioned that an app will be shut down in the background whenever a photo is taken.

While some users believe the 4GB RAM is to be blamed, others suggest that the battery management feature of Android 9.0 Pie could be the culprit. The Adaptive Battery feature uses AI to figure out which apps you use frequently and keep them in memory, while the apps you do not use often are shut down.

It is unclear whether this is a hardware or software issue. If it is the latter, Google could possibly roll out software fixes.
