Google Photos will now offer smart actions to fix your pictures
Using artificial intelligence and machine learning to make products better and get things done is a recurring theme this Google I/O. Google Photos, too, is getting several AI-powered features.
For one, starting today, Photos will give you suggested actions as you’re going through your photos, such as the option to brighten, share, rotate, or archive a picture. These suggested actions are powered by machine learning, which means you only see them on relevant photos. So for a photo of a document, for example, Photos can convert it to a PDF. Simply tap a suggestion to complete the action.
In the Assistant tab in Photos, you may also notice new photos being created. Photos is using AI to play with “pops of color”, which means the subject in your photo will appear in color but the background is rendered in black and white. Google is also working on the ability to colorize black-and-white photos.
Alongside these additions, Google has also announced a new Google Photos partner program that gives developers the tools to support Google Photos in their products.
