All good things come to an end; Google Photos will stop offering free unlimited storage from 1 June, 2021.

In a blog post, Google states that any new photos and videos uploaded will count toward the free 15GB storage that comes with every Google account or the additional storage that users have purchased as Google One members. Do note that the 15GB storage is shared across Drive, Gmail and Photos.

There are more than four trillion photos in Google Photos, and Google says 28 billion new photos and videos are uploaded every week. The change in Google Photo's storage policy will help the company keep pace with the growing demand for storage.

If you upload photos and videos in high quality before 1 June, they will not count toward your 15GB free storage. Pixel 1 to 5 phone users can continue to upload photos and videos in high quality even after 1 June. There will be a new free tool in the Google Photos app from June 2021 to help users manage their backed up photos and videos.
