Google paying Apple $9 billion to remain default search engine in Safari on iOS?

Google has been paying Apple to remain the default search engine in Safari on iOS for many years. The payment this year could be three times more than last year!

Analyst Rod Hall estimates that Google could be paying Apple $9 billion this year and the amount is likely to grow to $12 billion next year. Hall claims that "Apple is one of the biggest channels of traffic acquisition for Google."

These fees are likely to contribute significantly to Apple's service business in the years ahead. Research and brokerage firm Bernstein suggested that Google paid Apple $3 billion in 2017. Morgan Stanley stated in its report that Google paid more than $1 billion in 2014.
