Google Launches Calico, Wants to Fight Aging and Disease

Google is known for taking what its CEO calls "moon shots". These can best be described as out of the world goals and targets, which is why Google is pursuing off-tangent projects such as its driver-less car program, Google Glass, and now, Calico.

Calico is a new company created by Google that will focus on "health and well-being, in particular the challenge of aging and associated diseases". In essence, Calico wants to put an end to aging and disease. How is that for a moon shot?

As crazy as this might sound, people are generally optimistic and excited about this news.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, added that: “For too many of our friends and family, life has been cut short or the quality of their life is too often lacking. Art is one of the crazy ones who thinks it doesn’t have to be this way. There is no one better suited to lead this mission and I am excited to see the results.”

As far as Google's moon shots go, this is probably one of the most outrageous. But if there's anyone who can put it off, it might just be Google. Besides, as their CEO puts it, they have the talent and the resources, so why not?
