Google is said to be shifting its strategy for Android by not limiting itself to one manufacturer per year to make its Nexus smartphone.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google is planning to give multiple OEMs early access to new versions of Android and have up to five launch devices at once. Sources also claimed that Google is pushing for the availability of Android 5.0 Jelly Bean by November.

The move is expected to silence critics that Google will favor Motorola Mobility for its Nexus program after its US$12.5 billion acquisition. In addition, having more Nexus devices means that telcos and consumers have more choices too.

Previously, Google will select one manufacturer per year to make its Nexus smartphone to run on the new version of Android. If you recall, the Google Nexus One is manufactured by HTC while the second (Nexus S) and third generation (Galaxy Nexus) phones are manufactured by Samsung.

Will Google's new strategy also mean that we are looking at more than one Nexus tablet this year? Most reports have highlighted ASUS as the Android vendor to build the Nexus tablet until a few days ago, Google's source codes revealed a collaboration with Samsung on the tablet as well.

More details on Google's new strategy and the first teaser of Jelly Bean are rumored to be available at the upcoming Google I/O conference on 27th June.
