Google's first smartwatch is likely to be called the Pixel Watch based on the company's recent trademark application.

Spotted by 9to5Google, Google recently filed the trademark application with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The trademark application is intended to cover the categories of smartwatches; cases adapteed for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands.

As Google I/O 2022 is held from 11 May to 12 May, it is likely that the Google Pixel Watch would be announced at the event.

Google has been rumoured to be working on its first smartwatch for many years. Miles Barr, Google's director of engineering for Wear OS, said in September 2018 that the company had no plans to release a smartwatch.

In April 2021, tipster Jon Prosser and @RendersbyIan shared purported renders of the Pixel Watch. Both tipsters also revealed some specs of the Pixel Watch. Business Insider reported in December 2021 that the Pixel Watch could launch this year and cost slightly more than a Fitbit.

Days after the Business Insider's report, Prosser published purported marketing photos of the Pixel Watch.  Android Police claimed in March that the Pixel Watch appeared in the listing of one U.S telco's inventory system, which indicates a launch in the coming weeks.
