Google confirms it cancelled the development of a second foldable phone
According to Ivy Ross, the Head of Design for Hardware Products, Google was actually working on a second foldable phone.
During an official Made by Google podcast episode, Ross revealed that the team was working on another foldable model. However, the team decided to stop working on the device as it wasn't good enough. Ross went on to praise the team for having "the discipline to hold back".
I'm really proud of the team because there was another foldable model that we had created, that we had the discipline to hold back and say ‘nope, it’s not good enough yet,’ and really wait until we felt like we could do something that was good enough or better than what was out there already.
9to5Google reported in September 2021 that details in Android 12.1 revealed a second foldable Pixel phone, "Jumbojack" was in the works.
Google announced the Pixel Fold earlier this month at the annual I/O conference. Priced at US$1,799, the Pixel Fold comes with a 7.6-inch foldable display and a 5.8-inch cover display. It is powered by the Google Tensor 2 chipset, 12GB RAM and a 4,800mAh battery.
