Google Censoring Searches Relating to Torrents

Google can't seem to make up their minds - on one hand, they argue for their search engines in China to be free of censorship, on the other hand, they start putting legal software like uTorrent and legal P2P technology like BitTorrent on the same list as porn and crime for their Google Instant and Google Suggestion services. They then leave sites like Piratebay.org still in said services while censoring Rapidshare on its Instant service. This is a site that has no search engine for the content that their users upload, has won a landmark case in the German courts that rules the site as not resposible for infringements made by their users and has been known to remove files that are infringing on copyrights.

What gives, Google?

torrentfreak.com - It’s taken a while, but Google has finally caved in to pressure from the entertainment industries including the MPAA and RIAA. The search engine now actively censors terms including BitTorrent, torrent, utorrent, RapidShare and Megaupload from its instant and autocomplete services. The reactions from affected companies and services are not mild, with BitTorrent Inc., RapidShare and Vodo all speaking out against this act of commercial censorship.
