Google has announced that the Nest Hub Max, LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9, JBL Link View and Lenovo’s smart displays can now be used to make Duo group video calls with up to 32 people. The feature is currently being rolled out in the US.

At the moment, you can’t create groups directly on the smart display — you’ve to do that in the Duo mobile app first. Once a group is created, subsequent calls can be initiated either by tapping the screen or asking Google Assistant. If you’ve a Nest Hub Max, its camera will also use its wide-angle lens to automatically adjust the framing to keep you in view as you move around the room.

Google is additionally bringing Meet group calling to its Nest Hub Max. With the ability to connect with 100 people, this is best for larger gatherings such as online classes and conferences. Joining a meeting is as simple as saying ‘Hey Google, join a meeting’ and then entering a meeting code. If you’ve another meeting coming up and it’s on your Google Calendar, you can also say ‘Hey Google, join my next meeting’.

Google says hosting work meetings on personal Nest Hub Max units is currently a beta feature only available to G Suite accounts. G Suite admins who would like to apply on behalf of their domains can sign up here.
