HP has just announced the Chromebook x2, which the company boldly claims is the “world’s first Chromebook detachable offering long battery life with great performance and exceptional features for productivity, sharing, and entertainment.”

Using Intel’s 7th-gen Core m3 processor with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM (you can top up to 8GB), the Chromebook x2 runs Chrome OS (like Acer's Chromebook Tab 10), which also means you can download and use Android apps on it. Just 8.2mm thin and weighing 730g in tablet form, HP Chromebook x2 also offers 10 hours of battery life. With the included full-sized keyboard attached however, the whole contraption becomes 15.3mm thick and steps off the scale at 1.4kg.

The Chromebook x2 also sports a 12.3-inch Quad HD touch screen (2,400 x 1,600 pixels) protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass, 32GB internal storage (expandable with microSD), dual speakers with audio custom tuned by B&O Play, front 5MP and rear 13MP cameras. It also has plenty of I/Os, including two USB Type-C ports for data transfer and charging and audio jacks. A stylus is also included as part of the package, and HP (or is it Google?) is throwing in 100GB of free Google Cloud storage for two years.

Available in a ceramic white anodized aluminum finish (and a leather-like surface in Oxford Blue for the keyboard), the HP Chromebook x2 will go on sale in the U.S. in June at a starting price of US$600. There's no word if it'd be available here.
