The global PC (including tablet) market saw a slight decline in Q1 2022 according to Canalys.

Despite the 3% drop, Canalys says shipments remain extremely strong compared with before the Covid-19 outbreak, with the three-year CAGR of 12% from Q1 2019.

Market leader Apple saw a 2% dip in shipments for its iPads. Samsung, which came in at second place, also saw 2% drop in shipments. Amazon overtook Lenovo for third position with 3% growth thanks to the huge discounts on its Fire tablets.

For the PC market, Apple took the top spot from Lenovo with 22.3 million units shipped which translates to 1% growth. Lenovo saw its shipments declined by 12% to 21.1 million units. HP also saw a huge drop of 18% with 15.9 million units.

Strong headwinds are expected for the global tablet market in the coming months due to the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19 lockdowns in China. The global chip shortage, which is expected to last into 2024, will lead to an increase in prices for smartphones, tablets and PCs.
