QNAP calls their TS-653D 6-bay NAS as a solution that is ideal for gamers looking for a storage solution with ample storage for their vast game collections and any daily backup/restore tasks they need.

There have been a number of NAS releases recently. We’ve seen smaller two-bay enclosures up to a larger 5-bay NAS. Increasingly, they are also finding their way into homes as photo, video, and game storage.

The QNAP TS-653D comes powered by an Intel Celeron J4125 quad-core 2.0 GHz processor and 8GB of RAM. It can take multiple storage drives including 3.5 HDDs and 2,5 HDDs and SSDs, all of which you'll need to buy on your own.

There are a number of connectivity options.

It has two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and three USB 2.0 Type-A ports which allow the TS-653D to be connected to a Windows or Mac system. Network connectivity comes from two 2.5GbE ports that can use existing CAT5e cables to upgrade network speeds from 1 Gigabit to 2.5 Gigabit. The dual 2.5GbE ports also support Port Trunking for up to 5Gbps.

When connected using one 2.5GbE port, the TS-653D delivers download speeds of up to 187 MB/s and upload speeds of 291 MB/s. With both 2.5GbE ports in use, download speeds increase to 376 MB/s and upload speeds are 498 MB/s. Adding an optional 10GbE card, download speeds can reach a maximum speed of 683 MB/s, while upload speeds hit 399 MB/s.

The TS-653D also supports PCIe expansion, multi-cloud backup, cloud storage gateways, 4K HDMI output, and real-time transcoding. The support of high-quality 4K video transcoding enables the NAS to convert videos to universal file formats that can be smoothly played on multiple devices. The TS-653D also can stream videos through DLNA, Chromecast, and other multimedia apps.

The TS-653D supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50, and Basic RAID. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and single are also available.
