You know, as annoying as it is to see writer George R.R. Martin kill off so many characters that it would make the Night King jealous, there's no denying that he's done a good job when it comes to literary worldbuilding.

Sure, he may not be able to dethrone or even scratch the likes of Tolkien just yet, but the continents of Westeros and Essos are still fascinating in their own right. So, if you enjoyed the Game of Thrones drama series, you'll probably be happy to learn that the House Targaryen-led prequel called House of the Dragon is scheduled to arrive on HBO GO on 22 Aug.

Set about 200 years before the events of the main GoT drama, House of the Dragon explores the background and lore of House Targaryen during the events of the "Fire and Blood" chapter in the books. It's got quite an expansive cast too, including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

Specifically, Considine will be taking up the role of King Viserys Targaryen, who has just succeeded the throne from the previous monarch, Jaehaerys Targaryen, while Smith and D'Arcy will play his two siblings, Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenys respectively. While I certainly haven't read the books myself (and frankly, I really should), I'm prepared to see some exciting plots play out between the three as the action unfolds.

Plus, since it's House Targaryen taking center stage, the show will probably have more than its fair share of dragons too, which I certainly don't mind. Once again, don't forget to mark your calendars for 22 Aug, and if you haven't already, you can also drop by the official HBO GO website to have a look around.
