Foxconn ready to begin manufacturing iPhones in India
Foxconn Technology Group Chairman, Terry Gou, has announced that new iPhones will go into mass production in India this year.
Foxconn is the largest assembler of Apple's smartphones and has previously concentrated production in China. A few older iPhones, including the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE, have already been produced at a plant in Bangalore for several years, but Apple is now ready to expand manufacturing to newer models.
“In the future we will play a very important role in India’s smartphone industry,” Gou said at an event in Taiwan. “We have moved our production lines there.”
Last month, Bloomberg reported that Foxconn is ready to start trial production of the latest iPhones in India before it starts full-scale assembly at its factory outside the southern city of Chennai.
