Fourth Generation Intel Core Processors Set to Arrive on June 4

The fourth generation Intel Core processors are set to launch on 04 June this year. It also coincides with Computex 2013 in Taiwan that is one of the largest IT trade shows of the country. This is according to an announcement by Intel last Friday that stated the next generation 'Haswell' chips are slated to arrive in approximately 3.33 quadrillion seconds.

In April this year, we reported that the chip maker was already shipping the Haswell processors to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This is despite the hardware errata with Haswell's accompanying Lynx Point chipset, which will cause USB devices to be dismounted after the computer transitioned into standby mode, specifically S3. Intel has officially stated that this bug affects only a small subset of USB SuperSpeed thumb drives and does not affect other USB peripherals.

Although it is still based on the 22nm fabrication process as the current generation Intel Core CPUs, the new Haswell chip touts of improved power consumption by a factor of more than 20 times over current designs without compromising performance. The debut of the new processor will bring with it a new CPU socket, the LGA1150, as well as a slew of new motherboards with exciting new features as the board manufacturers would be expected to put in much effort in order to differentiate their offerings. Do watch this space for more updates.
