Former Nokia engineers reportedly helping Huawei develop its own mobile OS

Rumors about Huawei developing its own mobile OS resurfaced with the latest tipoff from The Information.

According to The Information, three staff briefed about the project claim that Huawei is hedging its bets against Google Android and recruited former Nokia engineers to work on a proprietary mobile OS. Still in the early stages of development, the mobile OS is said to be developed in Scandinavia.

Huawei's move to cut its reliance on Google Android is similar to Samsung's strategy where the latter is using Tizen to power a growing number of products in its portfolio. Last October, Huawei hired former Apple creative director Abigail Brody as its Chief UX designer and it is expected that the company's EMUI interface is due for a major overhaul.
