Three former Apple chip executives plan to take on Intel and AMD with their new chip startup.

According to Reuters, the three former Apple chip executives - Gerard Williams III, Manu Gulati and John Bruno - started NUVIA Inc in early 2019 with the goal of designing faster, more power-efficient and more secure processors for data centers. They have managed to raise $53 million from Dell and several Silicon Valley firms to help expand its workforce from 60 to 100 by the end of the year.

Williams left Apple earlier this year after spending more than 9 years as the chief architect for central processors and systems-on-a-chip. Gulati worked at Apple for 8 years on mobile systems-on-a-chip while Bruno spent 5 years in Apple's platform architecture group.
