Foldable iPad with carbon fibre kickstand rumoured to launch in 2024
Apple is rumoured to be launching a foldable iPad next year.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims in a series of tweets he is "positive about the foldable iPad in 2024". Kuo says the foldable iPad will come with a carbon fibre kickstand and the material is deliberately chosen for its lightweight yet durable property. Kuo added the supplier of the carbon fibre kickstand, Anjie Technology, will benefit from the growing trend of foldable device with kickstands.
Rumours of a foldable iPad surfaced as early as 2020. Tipster Jon Prosser claimed in June 2020 that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone/iPad hybrid device. In February 2022, Bloomberg reported Apple is considering a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid device.
TheElec revealed in an April 2022 report that LG Display is working with Apple on a folable OLED panel for tablets and laptops. Analyst firm CCS Insight said in October 2022 that Apple will jump on the foldable bandwagon with the iPad in 2024. Based on Korean reports in November 2022, Samsung believes Apple's first foldable device will be an iPad or Mac.
A "major iPad Pro revamp" is reportedly coming in 2024. Bloomberg says consumers can expect to see an "updated design" and OLED panels for the iPad Pro. Development of the OLED panels for the iPad has also started.
