FIDO Alliance Officially Launched with Aim to Reinvent Passwords

The FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance has been officially launched and it aims to establish an open standard for online authentication in order to create a seamless and stronger system for users. Its pioneering members include major corporations like Lenovo and PayPal.

The members of the alliance aims to establish a standard that supports a full range of authentication technologies that include biometrics systems like fingerprint scanners, voice and facial recognition as well as tried and tested systems of One Time Passwords (OTP) and security tokens. The FIDO Alliances also hopes to include new technologies as they emerge as their ultimate goal is to provide hardware, software and connectivity services to ensure a smooth and seamless user experience without the need for cumbersome passwords.

Most importantly, consumers and end users will have a choice of authentication methods based on their requirements while the FIDO Alliance will provide support to online service providers in an effort to make the entire authentication process, an open, scalable and interoperable ecosystem.
