Facebook Gets a Major Facelift: Timeline

Source: Facebook

Facebook announces that it is beginning the global roll out of Timeline, the biggest interface revamp to date. Starting today, Facebook users worldwide will receive a notification on their profile prompting them to "Get Timeline".

The existing Facebook profile relegates your older posts, which isn't too visible on your profile if you're a frequent story poster. The only way to find these archived posts is to keep scrolling down all the way and hit "Older Posts", for as long as you've posted over the months or even years.

With Timeline, those important stories you've shared won't disappear even if you keep on adding new stuff. With a wider layout than the current profile, Timeline speaks more as the first thing anyone will notice is the photo at the top. You get to choose the cover and whatever photos to put here.

Scrolling down, you'll see your posts and photos categorized according to time. What's more, you get to choose what's featured on your timeline (unlike the old version where the most recent post is always at the top regardless of its popularity with friends). Star your favorites to double their size, so friends will definitely not miss them, or hide things which are less important.

On top of all that, you can add apps to your timeline. From showing things you like to do, like the music you listen to, these apps also help you discover what your friends are up to. You can even join in their activities by playing the song they're listening to.

When you get your timeline, you can choose to either publish it immediately, or take seven days to review and tweak it.
