Face ID/Touch ID support coming to Safari 14 to bypass username and password
Apple is bringing a password-less experience to Safari 14.
It released a new Web Authentication API that brings Face ID and Touch ID support to Safari. This new feature allows you to skip username and password fields on websites with Face ID or Touch ID.
Besides offering a more seamless experience in Safari, this is also a safer way to sign in to any website securely without having to remember different passwords for different web accounts or using a third-party password manager.
The Web Authentication API for Safari 14 beta is based on the ongoing work by Apple in Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance to promote password-less authentication. You can find out more about the Web Authentication API for Safari 14 beta in a 15-minute WWDC video here.
