EU is likely to agree on a common charging port for phones, tablets and headphones according to Reuters.

Sources familiar with the matter claim that EU countries and EU lawmakers will meet for the second and possibly the final one on 7 June to push the deal through. There are several outstanding matters to discuss which include widening the scope to notebooks, and harmonising wireless charging systems by 2025.

EU members voted overwhelmingly in April to support of the legislation to force manufacturers to use USB-C port except for devices deeem too small to have the port such as smartwatches and activity trackers.

If the deal pushes through, it will be a major setback for Apple. The Lightning port has been used on the iPhone, some iPad models, AirPods and other accessories. Apple is rumoured to be replacing the Lightning port on the 2023 iPhone with USB-C.
