Epson's new EcoTank series ink tank printers are compact and print up to 6,000 black-and-white pages with just one ink bottle

Epson has just launched its new range of ink tank system printers in Singapore. Now re-branded as EcoTank printers, the new L3110 / L3150, M1120, and M2140 are designed for SMEs and home offices, and they once again aim to appeal to users with their lower overall cost per print numbers compared to laser printers.

The EcoTank L3110 (successor to the L360 and L380) and L3150 (successor to the L405) are color inkjet printers with additional scan and copy functions. Both print up to 10 ipm in mono and 5 ipm in color, have a 100-sheet paper tray, and produce up to 4,500 black-and-white pages and 7,500 color pages with a set of four ink bottles.

The key difference between the L3110 and L3150 is that the latter also supports 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity in addition to regular USB 2.0. The L3150 also has a better scanner (1,200 x 2,400 dpi vs. 600 x 1,200 dpi optical resolution) and a faster copier (7.7 ipm vs. 7 ipm for black and 3.8 ipm vs. 1.7 ipm for color).

On the other hand, the EcoTank Monochrome M1120 (successor to the M100) and M2140 are black-and-white printers with an ink bottle yield of 6,000 pages. Like the color models, Epson is touting spill- and error-free ink refilling with these printers, and as well as their smudge-proof and water-resistant output with the black pigment ink. A black ink bottle costs S$14.90.

Of the four new EcoTank printers, only the M2140 sports Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead (the rest use piezoelectric). This is the main reason why the multi-function M2140 is able to hit a top print speed of 20 ipm in simplex mode, compared to the single function M1120’s 15 ipm. The M2140 can also do automatic two-sided printing, and has two paper trays and a 1.44-inch LCD screen. Interestingly, the M2140 doesn't support Wi-Fi (USB only), but the M1120 does.

The Epson EcoTank L3110 and L3150 are now available at major retail stores, priced at S$239 and S$279 respectively.

The EcoTank Monochrome M1120 and M2140 will be available end October, and have a sticker price of S$249 and S$389 respectively.
