End of an era: Casio is reportedly pulling out of the digital camera market

According to a report on Nikkei, Casio is pulling out of the digital compact camera market following a loss of some 500 million yen for the fiscal year that ended March 2017. It seems the company has come to the conclusion that no market growth can be expected for the future for this segment, and so will focus solely on high-value camera products instead.

Given that the company has been focusing largely on their free-style cameras like the FR100 and beauty cameras like the TR80 in recent years, this news isn’t that much of a surprise, but it still marks a sad end to a long line of consumer-friendly compact cameras.
