A clean above the rest with Dyson’s new Omni-glide vacuum

It’s been roughly a week since you shifted into your brand-new apartment, and with nothing too heavy on your plate today, you opt to do a little spring cleaning. As Ma would say, you should probably start with a good old-fashioned broom and dustpan, and although the wisdom of the ages is certainly worth keeping in mind, you have got something capable of doing all that and then some.
Brandishing your shiny new Dyson Omni-glide vacuum cleaner, you get down to business, working your way quickly through the flat and giving even the narrower areas a good run-through without much trouble. Before long, you plop down on the sofa with a satisfied sigh and a well-deserved cup of coffee, ready to enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Changing the cleaning game
Go ahead and ask anyone who’s ever had to do it, and they’ll probably tell you that vacuum cleaning is either the easiest or most hellish cleaning task to complete. Conventional vacuum cleaners are generally great for wide, open areas like your living room, but the hassle sets in when you work into narrower areas. Having to squeeze and contort the nozzle into awkward positions is a struggle we can all relate to, not to mention that having to re-plug the device constantly as you move between rooms can be immensely cumbersome.
To cut a long story short, it is easy to underestimate just how much manoeuvrability can change the cleaning game, but that is exactly what sets the Omni-glide apart from your run-of-the-mill vacuums. Not only does it handle open areas just as well, if not even better than its peers do, but its ability to flex into hard-to-reach areas saves you valuable time and energy while cleaning.
Cover all the angles without missing a beat
First and foremost, like a skilled Formula 1 driver, the Omni-glide can flawlessly go around corners without missing a beat, owing to its patented omnidirectional Fluffy cleaner head. Built into the cleaner head are two motorised Fluffy rollers with angled carbon-fibre filaments, which allows the cleaner to not only pick up dust and debris when you move forwards over hard floors, but backwards as well.
So, how does that let it manoeuvre around corners? We’ve got four 360-degree castors to thank for that - these let the Omni-glide move effortlessly in all directions, making it a cinch to navigate smaller, narrower areas around the house. The vacuum also features an articulated neck, which works particularly well in tandem with the light pipe crevice tool (exclusive to the Omni-glide+). So, not only are you able to lay it down flat on the floor so you can clean under sofas and shelves, but you can even see where you’re cleaning as well, and that certainly gives it an edge over other vacuums, with their stiff necks and poor articulation.
Speaking of these hard-to-reach areas, the Omni-glide also does away with another problem faced by the conventional vacuum, and that’s having to twist and turn the nozzle constantly. With the Omni-glide, you can simply twist the handle 90 degrees, and the cleaner head will rotate accordingly, allowing you to clean spaces as narrow as 20.7cm and even sideways if needed. Overall, this impressive suite of manoeuvrability features makes it particularly well-suited for smaller homes like studio apartments, where furniture tends to be packed more closely together. Not to mention it is also lighter than most other wireless stick vacuum cleaners at just 1.9kg, so that makes it easy to handle and move around too.
Peeking underneath the hood
So, it’s lightweight and easy to control, but that doesn’t say anything about the quality of the cleaning. Accordingly, this is where we get into what lies beneath the cover. Dyson’s core vacuum technologies have come together to make this a powerful and yet compact cordless vacuum - take push-button operation, for example. Power and mode selection buttons replace the standard trigger on this vacuum, allowing you to swap hands while moving to clean around obstacles easily.
One shouldn’t forget the powerful Dyson Hyperdymium motor, either - a fast and light cog in this petite machine that spins at up to 105,000rpm. All that power works in your favour to create powerful suction on hard floors, ensuring that you don’t have to keep working the same spot to remove stubborn clumps of dirt. Eight cyclones also operate simultaneously within the Omni-glide, generating forces of 98,000g and removing microscopic dust from the airflow, allowing for deep, and more importantly, quick cleans.
However, if you’re still worried about missing anything while cleaning, the Omni-glide comes with one more safeguard to put your concerns to rest. The vacuum sports a nifty five-stage filtration system that traps 99.99% of particles, so you can say goodbye to “missing a spot”. In fact, if you need to execute a quick on-the-spot clean, the Omni-glide is even capable of transforming from a stick to a handheld vacuum cleaner, making it the perfect fit for cleaning car seats and hard floors in equal measure.
As such, when you factor in all of its other impressive features above, the “whole” really turns out to be greater than the sum of its parts, and it is this unparalleled versatility and ability to multitask that really puts the “omni” into the Omni-glide.
Maintenance is a breeze
At this point, the Omni-glide is already as decked out as a Christmas tree, but it’s about to get even better because this vacuum is just as easy to clean as it is to clean with. If dust build-up ever becomes an issue, you can wash up the bin, filter, Fluffy cleaner head, and any necessary tools without so much as touching the electronic components. Dust blowback isn’t a worry either, as ejecting the bin's contents is as simple as pushing down on a latch.
Another issue with conventional vacuums is that they either need to be plugged in constantly or tucked somewhere inside a storeroom when they’re not in use. But like many of the aforementioned “traditional” problems, you won’t have to deal with it because the Omni-glide drops right into a wall-mounted charging dock. Its small and compact profile means you can position it anywhere you like and leave it there to charge, so it’s always ready for your next clean at the drop of a hat.

Speaking of power, we should probably mention that the vacuum doesn’t run on users’ “unconditional love and affection” or anything quite so magical. Instead, the Omni-glide utilises four lithium-ion cells, supplying it with up to 20 minutes of fade-free power. On top of that, it also features a click-in battery capability - meaning that you can quickly replace your battery with a spare to double its run time. In fact, Dyson even recommends that you alternate between two batteries so you can prolong the efficiency of both.
Of course, this entire package wouldn’t be complete without some stylish aesthetics to tie it all up. The vacuum features a simple but elegant colour palette of purple, red and grey, but you can even slap some gold onto it if you purchase the Omni-glide+ variant. All things considered, it’s got all of the dazzles with none of the hassles - along with a metric ton of convenient features that might make you rethink the way you look at cleaning altogether.
