Without Tony Stark, Spidey needs a new father figure.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, that void will be filled by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. The character will play a pretty significant role in the next Spider-Man movie, acting as a mentor for Peter Parker.

Spider-Man 3 is starting to feature quite the ensemble cast. Earlier on, it was reported that Jamie Foxx would reprise his role as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. Seeing as the next Doctor Strange movie deals with multiversal shenanigans, we might see the sorcerer supreme involved in Electro popping over to Holland’s universe.

Both Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will start filming this month, with the former shooting in Atlanta and the latter in London. Cumberbatch will have to be quick on his feet to dart between both sets, though it’s unclear just how much he’ll appear in the Spider-Man sequel. Jon Watts will return to direct Spider-Man 3, while Sam Raimi helms the Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will also feature Scarlet Witch, crossing over after the strange events of Disney +’s WandaVision. Disney also recently delayed a number of Marvel Studios flicks, including Spider-Man 3 and Black Widow.
