DJI’s new Smart Controller lets you fly drones without needing your phone

If having to go through the process of connecting your phone to your drone and then securing it to the controller is just too much effort for you, DJI’s Smart Controller should be just what you‘re looking for. It comes with a crisp 5.5” 1080p screen that has a brightness of 1000 cd/m2, making it easy to view under even the most glaring sunlight.

The Smart Controller also supports OcuSync 2.0 Full-HD video transmission technology, with smart switching between the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands for reliable long-range transmission at distances up to 8km. Rated for stable operation at temperatures down to -20C and up to 40C, the controller gives you reliable control over your drone even in the most extreme conditions.

With a custom Android system and an optimized DJI Go 4 app, you can easily transfer captured footage over to your mobile phone for sharing. And there’s a new SkyTalk feature which lets you livestream your drone’s camera view directly to Facebook or Instagram over Wi-Fi.

The Smart Controller has a 5000mAh battery that gives it a continuous runtime of 2.5 hours. It’s available now at the DJI store for US$689.00. To see it in action, check out the video below.
