The DJI launches new Osmo Action 4 with larger sensor, wider dynamic range, and higher price

DJI just announced its latest action camera and it's called – quite predictably – the Osmo Action 4.

As the successor to the Osmo Action 3, the new action camera sports a larger 1/1.3-inch camera sensor (vs 1/1.7-inch), which the company claims will deliver "remarkable low-light performance."

In combination with its larger sensor, the Osmo Action 4 also has a faster f/2.8 ultrawide lens that has a 155-degree field of view.

It can shoot at up to 4K/120fps and in 10-bit D-Log M colour mode for a wider dynamic range during videographySpeaking of which, it can also support larger 512GB microSD cards so it can store more and larger video files.

The Osmo Action 4 is waterproof down to 18m, which is 2m more than the Osmo Action 3.

While the bigger camera sensor on the Osmo Action 4 will deliver lesser noise in both moving and low-light scenes, the photo-taking resolution of the new Osmo Action 4, however, is slightly lower – 3648 x 2736 pixels vs. the Osmo Action 3's 4000 x 3000 pixels.

Aside from the specs upgrades above, the Osmo Action 4 retains the same design and specs as its predecessor. The Osmo Action 4 has a physical footprint of 70.5 x 44.2 x 32.8mm and weighs 145g.

It also sports a 2.25-inch LCD full-colour touchscreen and a 1,770mAh battery that can last up to 160 minutes.

Pricing and availability

The Osmo Action 4 is available today from store.dji.com and authorised retail partners in seven configurations ranging from the standard combo, adventure combo, cycling combo, diving combo to hiking combo.

Prices start at US$415 (~S$557) for the camera only and top out at US$484 (~S$650) for the hiking combo that comes with a backpack strap mount, mini extension rod, and Extreme battery.
