Disney+ has released the first trailer for its next TV series set in the Star Wars universe.

Dubbed Star Wars: The Acolyte, the series takes place thousands of years before the original film trilogy and is set during the peak of the High Republic.

The series promises to immerse viewers in a narrative that intertwines the fate of a venerated Jedi Master, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae (of Squid Game fame), and his confrontation with his former padawan – a formidable adversary played by Amandla Stenberg. The plot thickens as their investigation into a series of alarming criminal activities leads them on a journey shrouded in darkness, hinting at the emergence of malevolent forces that challenge their perceptions of reality.

The cast ensemble is notably diverse, also featuring talents such as Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte will be available for streaming on 5 June on Disney+, new episodes available weekly after.
