Details on Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Project Zen leaked

While consumers in Europe are going nuts over the gold platinum Galaxy S6 models, the focus is now slowly shifting towards the new Galaxy Note model(s).

According to SamMobile, its sources suggest that Samsung might only release one variant of the Galaxy Note 5 this year instead of two. The Galaxy Note 5 is said to have a 2K or 4K Super AMOLED display (no curves) and the Exynos 7422 processor. There are is also chatter that Samsung is testing the Note 5 with a new Exynos 7430 chipset.

The use of the Exynos 7422 processor is significant for Samsung as the chipset is the company's first all-in-one solution (ePoP) where the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem are all housed in one single chip. The newer Exynos 7430 is supposedly an engineering sample and may not be ready for commercial use.

While there might be only one Galaxy Note 5 model this year, Samsung is said to be working on another smartphone to replace the Galaxy Note Edge. Known internally under the codename "Project Zen", this device is supposedly not as high-end as many would expect it to be.

It is rumored to come with a 5.4 or 5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display, the S Pen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 16GB internal storage, 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Since it's still four months before IFA 2015, it is too early to conclude if what's reported might make it to the actual finalized specs. There is a high chance of changes in the hardware and/or software before the official launch of the next Galaxy Note device.
