Dell's Sputnik Gets the Green Light

Back in May 2012 Dell announced Project Sputnik, which aimed to build an ultrabook running on Ubuntu targeted at software developers for the Linux operating system. A six month pilot program to check feasibility and interest in the project was rolled out. Two months after the commencement of the pilot program, Sputnik has been given the green light.

The XPS 13 will retain its standard specifications such as its 13.3-inch screen as well as an SSD. Consumers will have the option to choose between an Intel i5 or i7 processor. Ubuntu 12.04 has been chosen as the software.

As of now no price point or release date has been announced. But seeing that Ubuntu is free, you can perhaps expect costs to be lower than the comparable XPS13 featuring Windows OS.
