Dell's Smart Desk looks like something straight out of Iron Man
It's a scene straight out of Iron Man or Minority Report or Avengers or <insert movie name here>. The protagonist manipulates a futuristic piece of computing hardware and you wished the real world had something like it. That wish is about to come true.
Enter the Dell Smart Desk concept. Like the lovechild of Microsoft's Surface table (now called the PixelSense) and HP's upcoming smart desktop, the Smart Desk takes the best of both worlds and combines it into an even more exciting package. While it lacks the scanning capabilities of the Sprout, it allows direct interaction with whatever it is you're doing without involving other things like a keyboard (it's software based if the video below is any indication) or mouse.
The Smart Desk is aimed mainly at design professionals and we can certainly see how it could come in handy. For instance, 3D modelling could be so simplified that it could turn out similar to modelling with clay, only this time it's done with a computer.
If the above video is a preview of things to come, we might be looking at a whole new way of doing design, or even how we interact with computers as a whole. If the company can pull this off and win the hearts of professional consumers, it would certainly be a sign of exciting things to come from the now privately owned Dell.
