Dell may already have a foothold in the gaming market with its Alienware laptops, but the fact remains that the price of an Alienware still remains a little unpalatable. The company wants to boost its appeal to mainstream audiences as well, which is why it’s introducing its new G series of gaming laptops.

The G series notebooks will replace Dell’s Inspiron Gaming products. The G3, G5, and G7 will cater to different users, with the G7 series comprising the most powerful models. Dell says it implemented this tiered system to accommodate a range of budgets, so there should be something for everyone.

The entry-level G3 15 and G3 17 laptops can be equipped with up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q, but they start as low as a GeForce GTX 1050 if you’re on a really tight budget. The latter is the base option across the entire G series.

In fact, the G3 17 is Dell’s attempt at making an affordable 17.3-inch gaming laptop, especially since most other options on the market are prohibitively expensive.

Dell G3 15

Here’s an overview of the G3 15's specifications:

  • 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel IPS display
  • Intel Core i7-8750H processor (2.2GHz, 9MB L3 cache)
  • 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
  • 128GB SSD + 1TB 5,400RPM HDD
  • 56Wh battery
  • 258 x 380 x 22.7mm

The above will cost you S$1,699, but you can get it for as low as S$1,199 with a Core i5-8300H (2.3GHz, 8MB L3 cache) processor, 4GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, and a 1TB HDD.

These are the slimmest of the G series laptops, and you’ll find a decent selection of ports including a 2-in-1 SD card reader, a USB 3.1 (Gen 2) port, an optional Thunderbolt 3 connector, and an HDMI 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet port.

The Dell G5 15 sits one rung up the ladder, and it sports a slightly more aggressive design.

Dell G5 15

Here’s a rundown of its specifications:

  • 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel IPS display
  • Up to Intel Core i7-8750H processor (2.2GHz, 9MB L3 cache)
  • Up to 16GB DDR4-2400 RAM
  • Up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q
  • Up to 256GB SSD + 1TB 5,400RPM HDD
  • 56Wh battery
  • 274.7 x 389 x 24.95mm

Unlike the G3 15 and 17, there’s also an option for a 4K display on the G5 15. The G5 also sports larger cooling vents than the G3, which contributes to its more gamer-oriented design.

It is equipped with a range of high-speed connectivity options as well, including Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 (Gen 2), USB 3.1 (Gen 1), HDMI 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Dell says the keyboard has been built with multiple layers of reinforcement, with a 1.4mm travel distance and optional blue backlighting.

Finally, the laptop is equipped with a single-screw bay door, so you can easily service the components or upgrade them.

The G7 15 sits at the top of the line-up and it’s the only G series laptop that can be equipped with the six-core Intel Core i9 processor.

You can check out the local specifications listed below:

  • 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel IPS display
  • Intel Core i7-8750H processor (2.2GHz, 9MB L3 cache)
  • 16GB of DDR4-2666 RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q
  • 256GB SSD + 1TB 5,400RPM HDD
  • 56Wh battery
  • 274.7 x 389 x 24.95mm

This will cost you S$2,199, but you can also get it at just S$1,699 if you settle for 8GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, and a 1TB HDD.

Dell G7 15

Huge cooling vents adorn the G7 15 as well, and other than the more premium-looking design, it’s mainly the support for the Core i9 processor that separates it from the G5.

Only the G3 15 and G7 15 are available to buy locally.
