This game is now Mario Kart in disguise.

Gamescom Opening Night Live showcased an extended trailer for Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of Hideo Kojima’s FedEx simulator. The game comes with a host of updates that make cargo deliveries easier, plus a few mysterious new missions to complete.

Watch the trailer below:

So, what’s new in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut? Sam is getting a bunch of new tools to help with his more challenging delivery jobs - the most useful of which seem to be boots that negate fall damage, allowing you to jump off tall cliffs without damaging your cargo. There’s also the Buddy Bot, which can either carry Sam’s packages or Sam himself. If you want to just kick back and take in the views provided by Death Stranding’s gorgeous overgrown open world, you might want to get yourself a Buddy Bot.

A new simulation room also allows Sam to check out new firing range missions, with new ones being unlocked the more you progress in the story. When Sam is in his bedroom, he can also replay old boss battles ad infinitum. Most of these challenges now have leaderboards, allowing you to compete with other players online for high scores. You can also lay down race tracks in the open world and go on high speed races with bikes and cars.

If you’re more interested in Death Stranding’s narrative, you should know that Director’s Cut includes new delivery missions. We know very little about these, other than that they mostly seem to take place in new underground bases filled with enemies. To take care of those enemies, you can also pick up new weapons in this version of the game - like an electric gun that stuns enemies.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut launches on 24 September, 2021 on PlayStation 5.
