D-Link Launches New Wi-Fi Audio Extender

D-Link Launches New Wi-Fi Audio Extender

The D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender can stream music and extend your Wi-Fi range at the same time.

D-Link just launched the Wi-Fi Audio Extender (DCH-M225), a portable device that allows you to stream music from any smartphone or tablet connected to your home network to any speaker or sound system in the vicinity. It also has a secondary function of extending the range of your Wi-Fi signal.

The Wi-Fi Audio Extender works by connecting to your speaker or home stereo via a 3.5mm audio jack. It can then stream music from your AirPlay or DLNA-enabled mobile device by logging onto the same Wi-Fi network.

According to D-Link, the Wi-Fi Audio Extender is universally compatible with all router brands and only requires a simple one-button installation. Its portability also means that it’ll be easy to move the Extender from your living room speaker to your bedside stereo.

D-Link promises "clear sound quality" and better range, as the Extender receives data over Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth, a common standard for wireless speaker solutions. On a related note, competing brand Logitech, recently announced local availability of a Bluetooth Audio Adapter.

When a quiet environment is preferred, the D-Link will not sit idle. It also functions as a Wi-Fi signal extender to boost Wi-Fi connectivity in areas that your router cannot reach. It supports Wireless-N technology with throughput up to 300Mbps.

The D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender is available now for US$49.99 on Amazon and other D-Link authorized retailers. It is a cheaper option if you like its double functionality and do not need dual-band Wireless AC support, something that the US$89.99 Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Range Extender has.
