D-Link announces new entry-level DSP-W110 Wi-Fi smart plug

Home automation and smart homes may be the next big thing. Early this year, Google acquired Nest Labs for a cool US$3.2 billion. Nest makes smart home appliances and equipments and is famous its Nest Learning Thermostat and the Protect Smoke Detector. Apple is also rumored to be working on smart home appliances and its HomeKit API suggests that it is interested in the space too.

However, it would probably take some time before the two will announce any groundbreaking, but in the meantime, D-Link already has an impressive suite of smart home appliances and equipments including routers, IP cameras, smart plugs and more. And today, the company has just announced a new entry-level Wi-Fi smart plug called the DSP-W110.

Daniel Kelley, D-Link's vice president of marketing, said, "The Wi-Fi Smart Plug is an incredible way to introduce yourself to the benefits of an automated home. Whether it’s brightening up the house before you get home, creating a lighting schedule for while you’re away, or remotely powering off a device you accidentally left on, the Wi-Fi Smart Plug makes your home brighter, smarter and more in tune with you.”

The DSP-W110 is Wi-Fi capable and connects easily to existing networks using WPS. It also pairs with D-Link's free mydlink Home app to allow users to easily create schedules for the plug, specifying when it turns on and off. That aside, users can also remotely control the plug, turning them on and off.

It is available for retail now from D-Link's online store for US$39.99.
