More than a year after its debut at CES 2020, Creative has finally announced the availability of the SXFI Carrier, its latest soundbar and the world’s first to feature the company’s Super X-Fi Headphone Holography technology.

Jointly developed with Dolby, the SXFI Carrier is an impressive piece of kit that packs in numerous features into a compact body of just 88cm in width.

Despite its modest footprint, the SXFI Carrier is capable of delivering three-dimensional Dolby Atmos audio thanks to an “innovative acoustic design” developed in partnership with Dolby.

This makes the SXFI Carrier one of the smallest soundbars in the world to offer Dolby Atmos. Most other Atmos-certified soundbars typically stretch to more than 100cm long.

Each of the seven drivers within the soundbar has its own DSP-controlled amplifier, and Creative claims that it can produce the same sound signature as its acclaimed 15-driver Sonic Carrier (which measures 140cm-long, for reference).

The SXFI Carrier is also the world’s first soundbar to support Super X-Fi, but only through compatible headphones. This means you’ll be able to play games and watch movies with the added soundstage magic created by Super X-Fi, which promises to sound exactly like a surround speaker system.

The SXFI Carrier is the first to feature Creative's Super X-Fi technology.

Completing the package is a 10-inch wireless subwoofer that you can place anywhere in your living room.

Connectivity-wise, Creative thankfully didn’t make any changes to the prototype we saw at CES 2020.

You can connect to the SXFI Carrier through Bluetooth, USB-C and USB-A ports. A HDMI eARC port provides uncompressed and lossless HD audio, and two HDMI 2.1 inputs will allow rich sound and high-resolution picture quality to pass through from an 8K video source.

Combined with Dolby Vision compatibility, the SXFI Carrier promises to provide a complete theatre audio experience without the bulk and the cost.

Indeed, at a S$1,499 recommended retail price, it’s not as expensive as we expected it to be given its feature set.

Will the soundbar shape up to be the cinematic experience that apartment dwellers hunger for?

We’re reviewing the soundbar right now as we write this piece of news so stay tuned for our verdict.
