Creative marks the 30-year legacy of Sound Blaster series with its new premium AE-9 and AE-7 sound cards

Note: This article was first published on 10 July 2019 and republished on 2 August 2019 because that's when Sound Blaster AE-9 is available for sale.

The new Sound Blaster AE-9 and AE-7 are the latest PCIe-based premium sound cards from Creative. They also mark the company’s revolutionary audio achievements with the Sound Blaster series for the past 30 years!

The Sound Blaster AE-9 is the more high-end of the two. At its heart is the “audiophile-grade” ESS 9038 DAC that delivers up to “up to 129 dB DNR, PCM 32-bit 384 kHz sampling, DSD64 playback of lossless audio.” The card also “boasts Nichicon Fine-Gold capacitors, WIMA film/foil audio capacitors and swappable op-amps.”

According to Creative, the marque feature of AE-9 is its proprietary CleanLine technology that features custom circuitry and components that “eliminates voltage rail issues” and “isolates unwanted noise caused by power supply ripple” from high-end graphics cards. The AE-9 is the first Sound Blaster PCIe-based sound card to incorporate CleanLine tech.

The Sound Blaster AE-7 may occupy the lower rung; however, it’s equipped with an ESS 9018 DAC that provides “up to 127 dB DNR, with 32-bit 384 kHz sampling and DSD64 playback.” It’s positioned as an ideal upgrade from its predecessor Sound BlasterX AE-5.

Both sound cards ship with their respective Audio Control Modules (ACM), and boasts of de rigueur audio features expected of such premium audio add-ons like 5.1 and 7.1 surround virtualization, Xamp discrete headphone amplification, as well as an updated version of Sound Blaster Command software.

The AE-7 will be available from 15th July while the AE-9 will be for sale from 2nd August, pre-orders for both cards are accepted now. The Sound Blaster AE-9 is priced at S$439, and the Sound Blaster AE-7, S$299.

In order to show appreciation for Sound Blaster’s loyal customers over the last 30 years, Creative will offer a 15% discount off their latest Sound Blaster products. This discount will apply for “all upcoming Sound Blaster products launched between now and the end of the year.”
