Cooler Master’s CK550 is a solid mechanical gaming keyboard for the budget conscious

Cooler Master has announced the CK550, an affordable mechanical keyboard for gamers on a budget. However, the company also intended for the CK550 to be a “pro-grade” keyboard with all the core features that gamers care about, so this is shaping up to be one of the more value-for-money keyboards around.

Like many of the newer keyboards announced today from the likes of HyperX and Logitech, the CK550 uses a floating key design. The keys are set atop a curved aluminum top plate for some extra rigidity, and it also sports an attractive brushed gunmetal finish.

Cooler Master has opted for a choice of Gateron Blue, Brown, or Red switches, so you can pick between clicky, tactile, or linear switches. In my experience, these are nearly indistinguishable from the original Cherry MX switches, and they offer just as good a typing experience.

In addition, the keyboard supports per-key backlighting and multiple effects and lighting modes that you can customize on-the-fly. However, you can also use Cooler Master’s software to access more advanced settings such as macros and additional lighting options.

The CK550 is available to buy now at S$99.
