Cooler Master has announced the local availability of the MasterSet MS120, a gaming mouse and keyboard combo that looks to be a decent starting point for those looking for a pair of affordable gaming peripherals.

At S$139 for the entire set, you’re not going to get a full-fledged mechanical keyboard, but Cooler Master is instead offering what it calls “mem-chanical” switches, which are really membrane keys designed to mimic the feel of regular Cherry MX switches.

These attempt to simulate a tactile and clicky action much like the Cherry MX Blue switches, but since we haven’t tried it out for ourselves, we can’t comment on how successful it is at doing that.

An exploded view of the switch reveals a tactile plunger, spring, and a support housing, and it features a 1.8mm actuation distance and 3.8mm total travel distance, very similar to what you’ll get with the regular Cherry switches.

That aside, the keyboard actually offers per-key RGB backlighting, which is a nice touch. In addition, there are nine preset LED modes and effects, including familiar ones like wave and reactive effects.

All the effects can be controlled on the keyboard itself, and you can adjust color, speed, and direction on-the-fly.

The mouse uses a 3,500DPI PixArt 3050 optical sensor, with support for four different – 500, 750, 1,500, 3,500DPI – presets. It also utilizes Omron switches and has three lighting zones to match the effects on the keyboard.

In addition, this is an ergonomic, right-handed mouse, so you’re out of luck if you’re a leftie.
