Although Singapore's budding games industry is still far from being the biggest fish in the pond, that shouldn't keep us everyday folks from showing our support. After all, some of our local developers, like The Gentlebros of Cat Quest fame have already found decent success creating games for the modern market, so there's no reason to suggest we won't do even better down the line.

Of course, we understand if you're not really familiar with what's going on here in terms of gaming and esports, so that's exactly why you should at least give Singapore Games Week 2021 a look. By extension, that includes the SGW Virtual Village as well, which will be open all the way till 31 Oct - it's a virtual convention where you can set up your own avatar and do all sorts of cool stuff, like embark on free treasure hunts, watch screenings and of course stop by various booths run by our local game development talents. Also, if you're interested in checking out the best games in the region, the Singapore Games Association (SGGA) will be livestreaming the Asia Game Awards at the Virtual Village on 17 Oct

While the list of interesting games and inventions at the Virtual Village should keep you busy for a while, there's a bunch of other events worth checking out at SGW 2021 too. For example, we've got a series of online and offline workshops and trivia nights from 11-17 Oct, not to mention that the little red dot will also have its own dedicated space at Gamescom Asia on 14-15 Oct called the Singapore Pavilion. There, you can head down to network with local SMEs and startups specialising in game development to video production and even esports - so if you happen to drop by Suntec City for your lunch break on Thursday or Friday, why not go in and have a look around?
