Circular says it will bring blood pressure and blood glucose trend-tracking features to its Ring 2.
French smart ring maker Circular is promising two game-changing features for its Ring 2 device that even market leader Oura and new entrant Samsung still haven't offered on their smart rings yet: blood pressure tracking and blood glucose trend tracking.
Apart from announcing that its Ring 2 recently received US$1 million in pledges on Kickstarter, Circular also shared that it will bring blood pressure tracking to the smart ring via an over-the-air (OTA) update later this year.
Circular claims that Ring 2 is more accurate in estimating blood pressure trends than rival products by combining electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors. Ring 2 users can take quick readings of between 30 seconds to two minutes to understand how daily activities could affect their blood pressure.
As for blood glucose trend tracking, Circular expects to roll out the feature to the Ring 2 via a software update in late 2026. The Ring 2 will use PPG sensors and machine learning algorithms to monitor how light interacts with blood to track glucose fluctuations. Compared to finger pricks and continuous glucose monitors, this non-invasive method is considered by the industry to be the holy grail of health monitoring.
That said, there is still some time before these health features arrive on the Ring 2, and in that time, rivals could possibly catch up.
Samsung, for example, is reportedly exploring an optical blood glucose sensor for the Galaxy Watch series, while Apple is tipped to bring blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 this year. However, it could take a few more years before Apple's blood glucose tracking technology is ready.
