Chinese phone makers reportedly buying dual-edge displays from Samsung

Samsung started the dual-edge display trend with the Galaxy S6 edge last year.

Pressure-sensitive displays are not the only emerging trends in smartphones today; Korean publication ETNews reports that Samsung is negotiating with Chinese phone makers to supply its dual-edge display panels for use in their future smartphones.

Although the dual-edge display panels are similar to those used in the Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy S7 edge, these Chinese phone makers are expected to develop their own software interface to make use of the dual-edge displays.

Chinese phone makers such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Vivo are said to be releasing smartphones with these displays later in the year. Vivo may be the first among the Chinese brands to do so with its XPlay 5 smartphone.

Aside from the Chinese phone makers, BlackBerry is also highlighted as another phone maker which bought the dual-edge displays for use in its first Android-powered smartphone, the Priv.
