Check your attendance and temperature at a glance with the RamcoGEEK facial recognition system

Check your attendance and temperature at a glance with the RamcoGEEK facial recognition system

We’ve all be doing it lately. Using hand sanitizers at regular intervals to clean our hands, or taking our temperature before we’re allowed to enter a building.

Events have been cancelled and some of us are working from home

But at least some of it could soon be a thing of the past.

The Ramco Innovation Lab in Singapore today unveiled The RamcoGEEK facial recognition system that uses IoT-based sensor doors that can also take the temperature of a person. Panasonic launched something similar last year, but it lacked a temperature-taking mechanism.

Ramco says they will offer the new system on a subsidised basis to Singapore businesses with 250 and more employees in gratitude to the city and its workforce where its Innovation Lab and Regional HQ are based.

The entire solution comprises of several components RamcoGEEK for Attendance with Temperature Capturing, RamcoGEEK for Visitors system and RamcoGEEK for Contact Tracing.

Putting the pieces together

When combined, the solution starts by detecting and matching the faces of staff members and marks their attendance along with temperature. The system is linked to IoT sensor-powered doors which can restrict access in cases where temperature is higher than normal and auto apply leave on behalf of employees. The same can also be done for visitors with notifications raised when the system encounters a person with a very high temperature within premise.

Finally the solution can also do contract tracing when used together with other technology. For example, in a positive case of Covid-19 at a restaurant, RamcoGEEK can alert employees who dined at the restaurant to be quarantined based on bills raised.

One step in dealing with Covid-19

Temperature taking and hand washing are some of the basic steps in dealing with Covid-19. Businesses have been coming up with ways to protect staff and customers as it has spread globally. Besides having staff work from home, many events like the Mobile World Congress 2020 have been cancelled, and others have gone online. Even entertainment companies like Netflix and Disney have had to halt filming due to health concerns. Movie releases are also being pushed back.

Conversely though, online streaming platform Steam, announced that it had recorded over 20 million concurrent users at its peak, about a million people up from the previous record of 19 million. Title-wise, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently the hottest game on the list, taking up most of the 6.2 million players that were in-game at that point in time.
