Changing your Apple Watch's region won't get ECG to work, it has to be purchased in the US

Note: This article was first published on 7th December 2018 and republished now because, presumably, many of you would have received Apple Watches for Christmas.

 

Apple has enabled ECG for the new Apple Watch Series 4. However, as mentioned during the keynote back in September, the ECG feature would only be for US owners.

Apple will need to obtain the proper regulatory approvals before it can roll out the ECG feature for Apple Watch Series 4 owners in other countries.

Further investigations unveiled that changing the region of the iPhone or the Apple Watch would not allow ECG to be enabled. The watch has to be purchased in the US.

This has been confirmed by some Twitter users.

So now you know, don't bother changing the region code on your iPhone or Apple Watch. It won't work.
