Changi Airport Group trials new check-in luggage tracking feature for travellers
Will your check-in luggage ever arrive with you at your destination? Did it survive the journey home? Thanks to this new baggage tracking feature by the Changi Airport Group (CAG), the answer to these questions might no longer be uncertain to avid travellers.
CAG recently announced a new baggage-tracking functionality on the iChangi app (Android, iOS). According to its official statement, the new tool allows travellers to keep track of their check-in luggage’s status, and receive up-to-date information on any delays (and the reasons, if any).
The functionality is quite detailed. By using their phone, travellers can scan their bag tags at departure from Changi Airport, and see every update on the bag’s travel status – whether it has gone through the baggage handling system, or if it’s entering the aircraft’s loading containment area.
For travellers arriving in Changi Airport, the app’s sub-functionality also lets users know when they can expect their check-in luggage to arrive on the collection belt.
CAG also added that this feature has been undergoing public trials since December 2022. For starters, the tracking system is available only for “participating airlines” at departure, and only in Terminals 2 and 3 for arrivals. The company intends to onboard more Changi terminals onto this feature “early next year”.
