Samsung’s TVs this year are getting a smarter Bixby voice assistant and native Alexa and Google Assistant integrations
Building on last year’s efforts, Samsung has further refined the performance of the Bixby intelligent assistant on its 2020 smart TVs.
In addition to increased responsiveness and hotword detection, the latest version of Bixby on TV will now analyse your usage patterns to make more informed recommendations.
For instance, by studying your frequently used settings, when you ask Bixby to ‘increase the volume’, it’d automatically set it to, say, level 20 because that’s the volume you've manually set to most of the time.
Since Bixby knows your watch history, this more conversational and contextual interaction also works when you’re changing channels and searching for new content.
Also new this year is that Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant will be built into the TV. And switching voice assistant couldn't be simpler — just ask Bixby.
To be clear, Samsung’s 2019 smart TVs already offer full support for Alexa, but they require a separate Alexa-enabled device such as an Amazon Echo smart speaker.
